JSNE CORE
1. The Rule of Law is Paramount and Defined by Democratic Governance, Laws and Rules.
The Rule of Law is not defined or constrained by power-hungry individuals or extreme ideological groups. And no one is above the law...no one can force their extreme beliefs on us.
2. JSNE Seeks a Communal Future without Hate, Fear and Exclusion.
Every person deserves equity and respect, and freedom from the burden of right-wing extremism. At all levels of Democracy, individuals must contribute to the greater good. When powerful individuals and extremist groups take more than they give, Democracy suffers…our community suffers.
3. Improving Our Community Requires Each of Us to Make Informed Decisions, Based in Truth and Reality.
Democracy works when people are informed and can consider alternatives, and make decisions in their own self-interests. People need information on local politics and perspectives supported by facts and reasoned insights. At the same time, misinformation and untruths must be exposed and challenged. Community complacency, fact ignorance and apathy are dangerous. Once informed, reasonable people will hold public figures and elected officials accountable for their extreme rhetoric and actions.
WHAT IS JSNE DOING ABOUT RIGHT-WING EXTREMISM IN DOUGLAS COUNTY?
1. JSNE Focuses on the Decades-Long Libertarian Influence Behind Today's Ideological Extremism
To fully understand the scope of local extremism, we must create a narrative that delves into the decades of outside interference driving our community's economy, institutions, culture and politics.
Simply stated, Douglas County is unique.
Our community has been continually shaped by hardcore billionaire libertarians - America's oligarchs - as a formative testbed for their power and wealth-grabbing national agenda. These are the same uber-wealthy corporatists and profiteers covered by Jane Mayer's 2016 book, Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right.
In essence, these oligarchs want it all...and they regularly invest in Douglas County governmental and institutional politics to hone their agenda for the rest of the country. For example - the longstanding national effort to reform public education - charter schools, rewritten American history and introduction of religion into the classroom - was kicked off in the 1950's at the radical libertarian Freedom School think-tank located in Douglas County's Larkspur. The Koch family provided significant seed money framing the Freedom School as an alternative to the John Birch Society.
2. JSNE Uncovers Facts and Connects the Dots for Local Relevance
